Description

Many people today are looking for more than relief from physical pain and discomfort. Many are also seeking help with emotional and spiritual distress that can stem from a sense of alienation and lack of meaning in our increasingly chaotic, time-stressed, and technological world. In Ling Shu-Chapter 8, the visionary Yellow Emperor describes such a state with words like “lost,” “uncontrollable agitation,” “confused and disordered,” and “abandoned.” His suggested solution: Acupuncture that is rooted in spirt. This presentation explores how to deepen one’s practice so as to not miss rooting in the spirits. It discusses ways to approach psycho-spiritual symptoms through centering and one’s personal presence, through enhanced rapport and listening with clients, and by using specific acupuncture points, protocols, and other modalities.

Learning Objectives

  1. Ways to creatively address and treat psycho-spiritual symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, grief, poor relationship with food, etc.
  2. Specific practices and techniques to help center and ground both before and during clinic treatments
  3. Skills to expand one’s listening capacity—so that listening becomes a body-mind-spirit experience and not simply a talking encounter with patients
  4. Approaches that will help patients open to a deeper place inside themselves to enhance their own receptivity to treatment
  5. Ways to help patients work with their symptoms in a collaborative versus combative way
